Join us for drinks and nibbles from 5.30pm.  At 6pm we will run an approximately half-hour AGM followed by a fantastic talk about New Zealand’s subantarctic islands.  Our guest speaker is Monica Peters.

In December last year, Monica had privilege of travelling the subantartic ocean on an 8-day trip to the Snares, Enderby, Auckland and Campbell Islands. Although her main driver was to to get up close and personal with megaherbs, she has also had a long-standing interest in the human history of the island – from overly optimistic settlers to shipwreck survivors. To celebrate this year’s AGM for the Waikato Botanical Society, she will share the (many) botanical highlights of her trip, near altercations with wildlife, Russian cures for sea sickness and insights into how humans survived on these remote outposts.
