Leslie Road Conservation Area

September 9, 2018

PLEASE NOTE:  The previously advertised trip to Arnolds Bush has been postponed due to the recent wet weather (the landowner prefers that the Bot Soc visit when access and the kahikatea stand are not so wet).  Keep an eye out for a new date sometime in summer or autumn.  We still have an option for this date however (see below)!

Combined trip with Rotorua Botanical Society.

We will head up Leslie Rd and explore the never before botanised DOC administered Leslie Rd Conservation Area.  At 226 ha this large block borders both sides of Leslie Rd offering good access to a variety of habitats near roadside including tawa-mangeao-rewarewa forest, rimu -tawa-pukatea forest as well as shrubland and regenerating forest further up on the main ridge. The reserve is bordered by farmland and exotic plantations and further indigenous forest in Kinleith Forest on edge of Mamaku plateau. As this area is seldom visited by botanists it will be great to get a species list together.

Meet: Te Waihou (Blue Spring) Carpark, Leslie Rd off SH 28 –(start of Te Waihou walkway). (Note this is not the same as Lower Blue Spring Carpark on SH 28 at bottom of Te Waihou walkway). at 9:30am

Grade : Easy-Moderate

Look forward to seeing you all there. Please let Paul know if you are coming.
