Ron and Dell invite members to stay at their place at Waitete Bay, just south of Colville, as a base to visit a very neglected Thames Coromandel District Council reserve on the Colville Hill.\u00a0 This 14 ha forest remnant deserves some care and more information about its botanical diversity might be helpful in achieving this. \u00a0As well as the reserve, there are adjacent privately protected forests we are welcome to visit, as well as their own\u00a0 little\u00a0 (8\u00a0 ha)\u00a0 QEII\u00a0 covenant\u00a0 which\u00a0 is\u00a0 still\u00a0 in\u00a0 the\u00a0 early\u00a0 stages\u00a0 of\u00a0 regeneration.\u00a0\u00a0On quiet nights kiwi can usually be heard in this area.\u00a0 Local\u00a0 environmental enthusiasts are keen to join us.\u00a0 Difficulty easy – moderate.<\/p>\n

Accommodation options:\u00a0usual household facilities are available at Ron and Dell’s place, along with\u00a0two spare bedrooms, lots of squabs and the living room floor, or for those who\u2019d prefer a little more privacy there is public accommodation at Amodeo Bay 2km south of Waitete, and at Colville, 10km north.\u00a0 You will need to bring your own breakfast and lunches, and something for a shared dinner on the Saturday night.\u00a0 A koha would be appreciated please\u00a0(a token to cover electricity costs\u00a0and the bulk towards a donation to\u00a0the Moehau Environment Group, without whom the chance of hearing kiwi would be slim to nil).<\/p>\n

Travel time is around 2\u00a0and three-quarter\u00a0hours from Hamilton.\u00a0 Please contact Dell if you are interested in going so she knows how many to expect.<\/p>\n
